The USAHEC proudly presents, 'A Great Civil War: 1863, Battles that Defined a Nation,' the center's newest exhibit. Occupying space inside the USAHEC's changing gallery in the Visitor and Education Center, this exhibit opened to the public on Friday, May 17, and explores the major battles of 1863, though artifacts and archival materials.

Even re-enactors have to train, and over the weekend of May 10-11, 2013, the living historians of Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, will be at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to hone their skills at educating the American public.

The USAHEC, partnering with Carlisle Barracks and the US Army War College, is proud to present a celebration of Women's History Month throughout the month of March. We will celebrate Women's History Month by distributing information about women's history through our various media sources on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We will also have a presentation and a community service project planned for the month.

The USAHEC is Closing Early Today
Due to expected deteriorating weather conditions, the USAHEC will close today, Friday, January 25 at 2:00pm. The Great Decisions Lecture scheduled for 1:00pm today is postponed. AHEC Introduces New Digital Catalog System
Effective immediately the US Army Heritage and Education Center's Digital Database System has been replaced with a new digital content catalog. Known as the Digital Asset Management System, this new search engine gives the user keyword search capability and broader access to our digital collections. The new interface is currently accessed through our website or at . Our reference staff is available during business hours to support questions on the new system at 717-245-3949.

USAHEC Holiday Closures
The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center will be closed on November 22, 2012 (Thanksgiving Day), December 24 and 25, 2012 (Christmas), and December 31 and January 1, 2013 (New Years). The facility will be open during normally scheduled business hours otherwise. The Cafe Cumberland will be closed November 22 and 23, 2012, and from December 22, 2012 through January 2, 2013.

Exciting changes are coming to the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, as the facility prepares to launch new interfaces for both its research catalog and its digital archive. These new, state of the art systems will make performing research and locating materials at the USAHEC much easier. Streamlined processes and updated technologies ensure users are able to quickly identify information in the USAHEC's catalogue and more easily search the various digitized materials, including photographs, technical and field manuals, and manuscripts.

A Civil War history double header awaits visitors to the United States Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) on November 16, 2011. USAHEC, the U.S. Army's preeminent heritage center and research complex, is proud to present an afternoon and evening of Civil War history. The event includes the grand opening of the new Civil War photography exhibit, "Understanding War Through Imagery: The Civil War in American Memory," as well as the grand opening of the new Cafe Cumberland at USAHEC, followed by a reception. Attendees can finish out their evening at USAHEC by attending the Perspectives in Military History Lecture Series presentation featuring Mr. Edwin Bearss, renowned Civil War historian.

The Army Heritage Trail is the outdoor component of the USAHEC facility and consists of a one mile path featuring a series of large macro-exhibits covering various eras in U.S. Army history.

In its ongoing mission to present the Army's story, the United States Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC), in association with the Army Heritage Center Foundation and the Ranger Group LLC., will host a tandem airborne jump on August 13, 2011. The event will feature World War II veteran Richard "Red" Falvey jumping tandem with Ranger Group jumper and veteran Mike Elliott onto the grounds of the Army Heritage Trail. The jump commemorates Falvey's 90th birthday and honors his jumps into Normandy on D-Day and his jump into Holland during Operation Market Garden.

506th Parachute Infantry Regiment Living History Group to conduct "Basic Training Camp" at USAHEC.
On Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31, 2010, the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment living history group, the same unit as the famed "Band of Brothers," will conduct a basic training camp on the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center's Army Heritage Trail. Visitors will have an opportunity to observe paratroopers of the 506th as they demonstrate how they trained and prepared for overseas service during World War II. Beginning April 3, 2010, the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center will resume weekend hours of operation. Ridgway Hall will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturdays, and 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm Sundays. Weekend hours will continue through October 31, 2010. Ridgway Hall will be open for exhibit viewing and research, but all research pulls must be arranged during the week, as no research materials will be pulled on the weekends.

Colonel George S. Pappas, the founder of the U.S. Army Military History Research Collection, now known as the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, passed away on January 5 at his home in Belvedere, California. He had just celebrated his 90th birthday, December 26.

While the photographic process and the principles of modern photography were invented in the early 1820's, it wasn't until just before the American Civil War that photography became available and affordable to the populace. By the 1850's, photography had found a creative niche in the quickly-industrializing United States. It took the images of Civil War photographers like Matthew Brady, Alexander Gardener and Samuel Cooley to put a real face on the price of war.

AHEC's Audio Visual Curator, John Kurash was recently awarded a prestigious Bronze Telly Award for excellence in Film and Video Production. He was awarded the Bronze Telly for his work on "Lubitish's Lens"; a documentary film that defines the Battle of the Western Front through the lens of Sergeant Aron Cy Lubitsh, U.S. Army Combat Cameraman.
