The USAHEC is an expansive facility encompassing the Army Heritage Museum and the Military History Institute archives. Visitors to the facility can explore the one-mile long Army Heritage Trail featuring macro exhibits from various periods in Army history, the indoor galleries featuring in-depth exhibits about specific events and personalities in Army history, and the archives, which hold over 16 million items covering the entire span of the Army's existence. The VEC serves as a welcome and orientation site for all visitors to the facility and features a large gallery space, two multipurpose rooms with state-of-the-art audiovisual and catering capabilities that can support educational programs and special events, a bookstore and a gift shop, all of which are available to both the casual visitor and tour groups.
All of the exhibits at USAHEC are self-guided with in-depth displays, historical photographs, and articles based on primary source research from our archives. We encourage the public to visit the Information Desk located in the Visitor and Education Center to learn about new and current exhibits and events. The entire USAHEC facility is handicapped accessible, and visitors can borrow wheelchairs to assist with mobility as needed.
The Visitor and Education Services offer limited tours, generally for persons with physical disabilities, and for military organizations and veterans. Tours are focused on adult education and geared toward increasing the visitor's understanding and knowledge of U.S. Army history. We tailor these tours to suit individual interests and needs. The tours can include an introduction to the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center's mission, a walk through the building and our current indoor exhibits or a tour of the Army Heritage Trail, outside the building. Please plan tours as far in advance as possible as tour-guide services are extremely limited. For further information about scheduling visits to the USAHEC or for general visitor information, please email Visitor and Education Services or call 717-245-3972.
