Sgt. Alvin C. York, (Pall Mall, TN), credited with killing 25 [later attributed with 28] Germans, capturing 132 prisoners, including 4 officers and putting 35 machine gun nests out of commission on 8 October 1918. He arrived on the Ohioan, 22 May 1919, after having been recommended for the DSC and the Congressional Medal. He is said to have entered the Army as a "Conscientious Objector".
