Boris Chaliapin (1904-1979) artist and portrait painter was the son of Feodor Chaliapin, the Great Russian opera singer. Boris was raised in a highly cultured environment and received a classical art training in Russia and Paris. By the 1920s Chaliapin already had a considerable reputation as a portrait artist in Russia before making his way to the United States. Living in New York, from 1942 until 1970 he painted more than 400 cover portraits for Time magazine. This painting of General of the Army Omar Nelson Bradley was done for the April 1st, 1947 cover of Time.
