Outside the Wire, Seeing is Believing
The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) is proud to present a screening of “Outside the Wire, Seeing is Believing,” a documentary-in-progress by civilian filmmaker Meg Prior. The screening will be open to the public and held Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m. at the USAHEC in Carlisle, Pa. In 2010 and 2011, Prior was embedded with the U.S. Army’s famed 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), “The Screaming Eagles,” in some of the most dangerous combat zones in Afghanistan. Armed with a camera and a gritty determination to learn what the U.S. Army’s role in Afghanistan truly was, Prior spent a total of four months with combat troops from the 101st’s 4th Brigade Combat Team, “Currahee.”
Through hundreds of photographs and hours of interviews obtained along many, many miles traveled in convoys, on air assault missions and on foot patrols, Prior has managed to capture stories not often told through the mainstream media, while offering a vantage point for the average citizen to understand what military leaders know to be a highly volatile, unstable and complex mission almost a world away.
The screening of “Outside the Wire” at the USAHEC is a free event and includes free parking. The event opens to the public at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 2. The film will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a question and answer period with filmmaker Meg Prior. The gift shop and a small book sale will be open, as well as Cafe Cumberland.
