Preserving the Past while Enriching the Future
Preserving the Past while Enriching the Future: The Army Heritage and Education Center (AHEC) in Carlisle, PA
Army Heritage Day commemorates the service of our Soldiers throughout American History. Annually, in association with Armed Forces Day, the US Army Heritage and Education Center holds this living history/educational event that highlights the timeline of US Army service through the eyes of its Soldiers. Incorporating re-enactment groups and living history presentations from the French and Indian War through current operations today, Army Heritage Day offers a wide variety of demonstrations, equipment displays and historical programs the whole family will enjoy. A special focus of Army Heritage Day is the Army theme of “NCO: Backbone of the Army” with Soldier Induction and Basic Training during WWII. Highlights of this year’s event will include a WWII bayonet training and obstacle course, a Soldier-manned current operations checkpoint, equipment and heavy weapons displays sponsored by BAE systems, and a panel discussion with WWII Veterans, including a member of the “Band of Brothers.” For further information regarding Army Heritage Day, please call 717-245-3641.
Witness and engage in an extensive array of Living History Interpreters and exhibits while they come to life from all periods of time. Exhibits include a World War I trench, a Revolutionary War Redoubt, French and Indian War way station, a variety of Civil War cabins, and a World War II company area, all of which are staffed by living history interpreters, revealing how varied stories are depicted through peace and war.
This event will enable children and adults alike to gain a greater understanding of the military and social history surrounding the United States Army. While here you can indulge in a variety of foods provided by numerous venders, choose to attend a lecture or even look through the many books that will be available for purchase at the book sale in Ridgeway Hall.
It is free and open to the public and fun for the whole family. There is ample parking on site; as well as, auxiliary and handicapped parking if needed.
