Carlisle Barracks CCC Shoulder Patch |
Instituted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in March 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) provided young men practical training and paid work during the height of the Great Depression. Pennsylvania provided one of the largest recruit totals within the CCC from 1933 to 1941. Based on the military structure, the CCC was divided into corps areas across the country, which were further partitioned into districts. Finally, there were individual camps within each district that performed various environmental and infrastructure conservation duties. Of the roughly 152 camps erected in Pennsylvania, only three resided on U.S. Army bases. Carlisle Barracks Camp #3314, from District #1 in III Corps Area, existed from 1935 to 1937. |
