SUMMARY

The nature of warfare and military decision-making is understood to be both art and science, in combination varied according to circumstances. Professor Murphy argues that US warfighting commanders have their skills honed in current military education and training to employ the 'art' of strategic communication, but require a shift in organizational culture to maximize application of that art. He further argues they risk failure when considering implementing the 'science' of strategic communication without expert help .
