Preface

Established in 1993, the U.S. Army Peacekeeping Institute was recently renamed and transformed into the U.S. Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute, part of the U.S. Army War College. This event served as the impetus for our Library reissuing its bibliography on peacekeeping. Now in the fourth revised edition, Peacekeeping: A Selected Bibliography generally includes books, documents, periodical articles and Internet sites dated 2000 to the present. (Each Internet address was verified on 22 April 2004.)

Resources listed in this bibliography are all available in the USAWC Library. For your convenience, we have added library call numbers or Internet addresses at the end of each entry. Also, we have included brief explanatory notes where the title of the publication does not adequately indicate its nature.

For other closely related information held in our Library, researchers should refer to our bibliography on post-conflict reconstruction compiled in November 2003.

This bibliography is available online through our home page <http://www.carlisle.army.mil/library>. For additional information, please contact the Research and Information Services Branch, U.S. Army War College Library by sending an e-mail message to usarmy.carlisle.awc.mbx.us-libraryr@mail.mil, or by phoning DSN 242-4280 or Commercial (717) 245-4280.

Library Database for UN Materials

The USAWC Library subscribes to the Official Documents System of the United Nations (ODS), an electronic repository for documents published by the United Nations. On computers located in the Library, users can access the full text of documents in PDF format in all official languages of the United Nations. Librarians provide the necessary user ID and password, and offer assistance in searching this database. Researchers will find the ODS is an excellent source for additional peacekeeping documents, which are not individually cited in this bibliography.
